when did you first feel like an adult?

Interesting question:  when did you first feel like an adult?

First response:  do I yet?

Second:  when Ruth said to me, just before I left for college, “You know, you’ll only be visiting from now on when you come home.”

Third:  when Ann Buck died and Robin and I were helping plan and prepare the funeral luncheon.  We looked at each other and said, Life just got real.  life’s not all fun [and games] anymore.

Fourth:  when I was 18 and a Girl Scout leader at Day Camp for a week at Singing Hills.  The traditional Thursday night sleepover at camp, and I was petrified, alone in the dark.  I suddenly realized all the girls were sleeping soundly because I was there.  I don’t think I slept a wink that night.

Fifth:  one day I when Eva was in high school, I was at Dexter High School and there was a tornado warning.  We all moved to the ground floor and the kids were all sitting against the walls.  I was afraid, and then realized I had to be a leader should the tornado hit.  At that point truly an internal change came over me; my fears became secondary and I was mentally and emotionally prepared to lead should it be necessary.
